1. Sew knots of netting to the fabric with transparent thread like fishing line. Apply a drop of glue for extra strength.

2. Tie groups of 5 to 10 strands of jute to the netting with simple knots. Use various colors.

3. Season the webbing by dragging it behind a vehicle, soaking it in mud, or applying manure. This will help eliminate human scent, especially if the ghillie suit will be used for hunting purposes.

4. Select items from your setting to keep the best profile. If you are in a wooded area, for example, attach small branches and leaves to the upper half of the suit and feather it to the bottom with items such as grass or twigs.

5. Attach more items to the back of the suit. Sneaking in a ghillie suit is usually crawling with a ghillie suit. Items on your stomach or chest as you belly-crawl will likely get damaged or make noise.

6. Attach wider items around your head and neck. The human head is the most commonly identified part of the body. The shoulders and neck exaggerate the head. When standing still, your outline must be broken to prevent easy identification.

7.Be aware of your setting as it changes. If it is possible to stay in your setting as you get from point A to point B, do so. Otherwise, you’ll have to incorporate the materials of the new setting you’re moving into as you go along.

A ghillie suit can be used for many things besides sniping. For instance, a suit could come in real handy when on recon. missions, simple observations spying, serious hunting, serious paintballing, wildlife photographing, and tracking. There are an endless number of uses for a ghillie suit but it’s up to you. After you have acquired a suit made or bought, you must know the basics on using it. First you will need to make sure your suit is the right color for your environment. The way to do this is to put on your suit, lay down in the woods, and get a friend to pick out “bald spots”, blotchy spots, dark areas, and light areas. Take the suit back inside and use these suggestions to add/remove material, even out colors spray paint works well, and darken/lighten areas. Try to match all natural colors in your region evenly. Just remember that you will be moving through different terrain so take this into mind when choosing colors. Once you think you have “perfected” your suit, it’s time to field test it. Once again get a friend and some high-powered binoculars or a spotting scope and take your suit into the woods. Go 20 - 200 yards from your partner depending on the vegetation and tie vegetation leaves, sticks, shrubs, grass, etc. from the area into your suit using the shredded burlap hint: for a quicker method, just fall backwards into some leaves and wiggle around a little. This tends to be much faster and the leaves or grass stay in pretty well. This will take a while but it will help. Then pick a good place to hide and lay down. Scoop some more vegetation over you and then tell your friend to turn around and look for you. He should try to spot you in under 5 minutes, since by then he would be dead in an actual situation of this type anyway. If he cannot, then move to another location and try again. Once you have all the proof you need that your suit works, it’s “done”. It’s ready to be used on your missions. Just use the technique with tying in fall on back in vegetation whenever you use it and keep it in working order, since they need to be mended after heavy use. Also keep in mind that movement is the key. Keep all movements to a minimum. When you must move, do so slowly and steadily. Remember: A ghillie suit is only as affective as the person wearing it!

Most people who love to play woodsball know how important camo can be to your success. The only problem is that most inexperienced players don’t use anything to camo their gun. The hundreds of dollars spent on expensive body camo and quiet shoes is wasted if the sniper on the other team catches a glimpse of light shining off the side of your marker. Make sure you spend the extra ten to fifty dollars on good rifle or marker camo. There are many different rifle wraps and tank and loader covers on the market to make sure that your game isn’t spoiled. If you plan to play some woodsball make sure you aren’t leaving anything out that could spoil your game. Small purchases can make all the difference in the world, because we all know that it only takes one shot from the sniper that did buy that rifle wrap.

When moving through the woods, try to stay on uncluttered ground as much as possible. Where you step will have an impact on how loud you are as you move. This is crucial to success in woodsball paintball. Stay low, slow, and use precise and patient movements as you make your way through the terrain. Objects like leaves might not be the quietest thing to land on. Dirt or grass will be a better choice. Keep your body as low as needed to quickly get to your destination. Use the smartest routes too. Through the center of an open field or that tree line, what would be the better choice? To move almost weightlessly and silently, do not walk in your normal heel to toe movement. As you walk, roll your foot. Step with outside and heel of your foot and roll your foot down until your sole is flat on the ground. Be sure to make your quick movements when you hear shots being fired. Your competitors will be paying attention to where the shots were heard instead of surveying the area. Another great time for quick or louder movements is when the wind is blowing. The noise of your movements will blend with the natural noise.

In woodsball, obviously you want to avoid any flashy or bright clothing. But, did you know that a flight suit is comfortable and just drab enough in color to blend into almost any environment? A ghillie suit may also prove to be quite helpful in masking your location, even if your enemy is right next to you. But, ghillie suits can be too warm in some climates. Both a flight suit and a ghillie suit can be found at your local army surplus store or in a myriad of online stores. This can be expensive for a woodsball paintball game, but you could also don one of the traditional varieties of camouflage. Remember that the key is not just what you are wearing, but where you hide, how you blend, and how you move.

For your feet, light weight running shoes are great for moving quietly and quickly. Stay away from white or you will become an easy target. If your terrain is muddy, very vegetative or overgrown, you may want to choose comfortable hiking boots. One warning, if you use army retail store boots, you will make a lot of noise.

To camouflage something is to hide it’s shape so that the object in question is invisible in the environment. The purpose of camouflage is to remain undetected, for either the purpose of hiding or attacking from an unseen position, such as sniping.

Airsoft players often use camouflage ghillie suits to better the game and remain unseen when they are playing in the woods, but also sometimes to add realism to military sim play. In Milsim play, airsoft players try to imitate real conflicts and divide into teams representing both sides of an actual battle. It only stands to reason that they would dress in the same fashion. Most military units around the world use camouflage, so it makes the perfect costume for an airsoft player who is resolute on making their milsim play as realistic as possible.

Another reason that an airsoft player may choose to employ camouflage may be if he was playing the part of a sniper. Half of the skill of being a sniper is the ability to properly employ camouflage. An airsoft sniper would probably start with camouflage clothing and appropriately colored boots. Their airsoft sniper rifle would also need camouflage. This can be achieved with the use of a camo rifle wrap. Another piece of equipment that is indispensable for an airsoft sniper is a ghillie suit. Just like in real sniping, a ghillie suit offers the top of the line in concealment. A ghillie suit is a regular set of camouflage clothes, usually a set of BDUs to which many lengths of canvas have been attached to the front, and a strong mesh has been attached to the back. A sniper inserts bit of vegetation into the suit to complete the illusion. When properly employed, the sniper looks like a pile of vegetation. While actual snipers make their own ghillie suits, there are several places on the internet where prefabricated ghillie suits can be obtained.
